Orchids

Miltasia

Cymbidiums

Cattleya

In Bloom Orchids . . . Orchids for Rent, installed and maintained in your home, what could be nicer than that?    Andrea and Bob sent the beautiful pictures along with the news of family members who run this business in California.     We have an Orchid group here in Brookings who would get very excited seeing these orchids.   They hold a showing every year and are willing to teach you all about orchids.   They are so beautiful, delicate and colorful.  I had no idea they had names and had so many different colors and sizes and shapes.    I thought orchids were just lavender blue.

Cucumbers by the box full.   I had some given to me and I peeled them cut them into slices and put them in a bowl with some vinegar and a touch of salt . . . a real great snack and very satisfying.

I may have shown this one before, maybe several times.  A reminder that all that hard work to stay fit could prolong your days into 'I wonder why I worked so hard to stay strong and healthy just to end up bent and less spry' . . . better than the alternative;   and there really is a bit of joy in outliving all of your enemies.   Then it begets that saying, 'if I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.'     You can't win, so you might just as well enjoy your seconds each day, every day.

Can you believe it is Friday already.     When you write a daily blog you become conscious of the days and how fast they become weekends.    Those of you out in the working world probably do not think so.   Those of you who are retired are so busy that you don't keep track of time.    Creatures of habit, either we have time on our hands to use and make good use of, or bemoan the fact that it drags and there is no end to a day.  Here comes that old adage again, 'you get out of life what you put into it, no more , no less.'  So fire up that attitude and make sure you plot and plan a weekend of pure pleasure.   Work in the garden if you have one, take a walk around the block if you do not.   Then find time to rest in the shade with a tall cool one, your choice and invite a neighbor over to join you.
Speaking of an old adage, here is another: " Common entertainment included playing cards, however, there was a tax levied when purchasing playing cards but only applicable to the 'Ace of Spades'.  To avoid paying the tax, people would purchase 51 cards instead.  Yet, since most games require 52 cards, these people were thought to be stupid or dumb because they weren't 'playing with a full deck." I wonder how many of you have used that expression before.   Hugs to all.
