We have some similar color here in Brookings. Maples were planted along the side walk all around Fred Meyer's store. They are really beautiful this year with color like these in the pictures.
I was invited to lunch yesterday, rather brunch would be the name of our feast as Erin made a kiech that was delicious and beautiful to look at. The fresh fruit salad hit the spot and I made some scones , hot out of the oven, that added a bit of a touch to our feast. Good food, good company . . . ah . . . there is nothing like it to make a day special. The girls asked for the recipe for the scones and it was a jean dish . . . you know when I get out the bowl and start to make cookies, then look at a jar of homemade apple butter that was a bit more loose than expected, so, you have to do something with it and I did . . . I added it to the batter and out came scones shaped like pumpkins with raisin eyes. If you are in the mood to experiment, follow a regular cookie recipe and add a couple of more cups of flour, a pinch of baking soda to go along with the baking powder, cinnamon and nutmeg, maybe a half teaspoon just for a bit of extra flavor and add some apple butter, or you can even add applesauce if you don't have apple butter. Wonder what crunchy peanut butter would do . . . nah! that might be a bit too much.
It's Sunday a good day to bake up a few cookies, or a fancy cake. Desert always goes good after a meal, between meals, any old time. Take a walk around the block and look for some Fall color. Stop in and say hello to a neighbor preferably with a batch of cookies in hand. You might start up a tea party yet. If you swing by my place, I'll put the kettle on and share one of those scones. Bring a hug. Hugs to all. |
