Winter

Granddaughter Erin's new photograph on her web page.   A real softy and such a sweet young lady.  She is waiting patiently for her fly away date to South America and her date with the Peace Corps job of teaching sign language and a bit of theater to both the deaf and hearing folks.  They are in for a treat.

Erin dug up this old picture of me with my grandson Mason.  He isn't this size anymore, but all grown up and married and living happily ever after.

Isn't this a beauty;  so colorful, so merry and bright.   I wonder if there is an angel on top.

A reminder that winter is here and so is the cold and flu season.   Be prepared.

Nature at its best on a wintry early morning sunrise over the frosted earth.  How beautiful.

Don't go.....Don't leave me......I'll be good!   Even a bear needs a bear hug.

Hump Day and the weather may warm up a bit today.   Christine has commitments so we can't leave until the weekend so hopefully there will be a change for the better and the roads will be clear for travel.

We rode over to Bremerton yesterday, it is a lot closer than I thought.  I thought you had to take a ferry over but there is a highway and it isn't that far.  It was time for her to renew her drivers license and the folks here in Washington state know how to do it right.   They have a huge room separated in sections with lots of chairs as you wait.  You are given your number, it comes up on a screen and you go to one of the clerks to renew your license.   It took all of fifteen minutes from start to finish.   We found our way to have brunch and it was almost one o'clock.  Christine is not a breakfast eater and I usually hit the floor and food at the same time.  I'm learning if I don't eat anything I can go all day, although I am not about to make it a permanent habit.   We found one of her favorite spots but it had changed hands.   To say the waitress was slow would be a misnomer; and although she wrote out our order the chef did as he pleased.   Christine ordered a egg white omelet and got scrambled white eggs as the chef didn't know how to make the omelet with the whites of an egg...strange, but true.   I ordered a special with a chicken friend steak with one biscuit and got the steak, the potatoes and a side order of biscuits and gravy which would have fed half the restaurant.   They really were delicious so I am not complaining but what a waste as it was just too much food. The waitress must have gone on break as we didn't see her for a refill or a check until she got good and ready to stop by and check on us.   Some people are in the wrong job.

So today, if you go to your favorite luncheon spot, be sure you bring a smile along with you and maybe the service will be tops.    Speaking of smiles I went to the Good Will store and picked up a couple of sweaters to give my worn wardrobe a break.  Got a couple of good buys.  As I checked out and was having a conversation with the clerk, a couple came up and entered the conversation with us.  We talked about prices and old depression times and found we had a lot in common as we were all octogenarians.   I was waiting for Christine to pick me up, they left the store, Christine came and along with her the lady came back with a jar of her homemade preserves and a hug . . . smiling eyes does it every time.    So put on your biggest and brightest smile today and go make a friend or two.    You may be in for a huge surprise.  Hugs to all.
